Canadian VCs cuddling up to cleantech
Wednesday, August 16th, 2006I’ve got a story in today’s Toronto Star looking at Canadian venture capital investments in the second quarter of 2006. Investment overall fell by 25 per cent in the quarter, but investment in alternative energy, environmental and “other” emerging technologies rose substantially over previous quarters. For example, in the second quarter such investments represented 18 per cent of overall investment, versus just 6 per cent in all of 2005. That’s a three-fold jump.
In dollar terms, $87 million was invested in the second quarter alone, compared with $109 million for all of last year.
An anomoly? Not likely.
